Justice

Justice is the system’s model of proportional consequence — the expectation that actions will produce corresponding outcomes.
The fairness hardware runs a continuous accounting: who did what, what the cost was, what the appropriate consequence should be. Justice is this accounting applied at scale — the expectation that harmful actions will produce corrective consequences, that effort will produce proportional reward, that the rules will apply equally. The system produces satisfaction when justice is confirmed and outrage when it is violated.
The mechanism is old and powerful. The organisms that enforced proportional consequence within their groups maintained cooperation more effectively than those that didn’t. The justice instinct — the drive toward corrective action when the accounting is out of balance — served group stability. It still runs.
The modern environment produces justice-violations at a frequency and visibility the hardware was not designed for. Global information systems expose the operator to injustice across every domain — economic, legal, social, environmental — most of which falls outside the organism’s capacity to address. The Injustice entry covered the signal. Here, the relevant point: the justice instinct fires regardless of the operator’s ability to act on it. The system produces the corrective impulse even when no corrective action is available.
The operator’s position: the justice signal is valid. The expectation of proportional consequence is built into the hardware and serves genuine function. The challenge is holding the signal without being consumed by it — recognizing that the accounting system is running, that the imbalance it detects may be real, and that the operator’s sphere of effective action is specific and limited.
Where action is available and effective: the justice signal is fuel. Where action is unavailable: the signal becomes cost without output, and the operator manages it as they manage any sustained alarm — acknowledge the data, assess the options, and direct the available energy where it can actually produce the correction the system is demanding.
